With a painted wooden panel with a vintage look, you can create stylish accents in your home or create a very personal gift. The interplay of craft paints, stencil technique, plastic stencilling cream and fine lines with the Posca marker creates an expressive motif with special depth. In this step-by-step guide, we show you how to creatively paint a wooden panel and turn it into an eye-catcher with a fluffed-up cat figurine.

Prime the wooden panel: Create the perfect base
Start by priming the wooden panel with a paint sponge and the craft paints in antique red and gray-brown. Gently dab the paints onto the surface instead of painting. This creates a slightly irregular, lively texture that gives the wood a rustic character.
The primer ensures that the subsequent colors adhere better and appear more even. Allow the wooden panel to dry completely before continuing with the next step.
stencil place and paint the motif
As soon as the primer is dry, place the stencil on the wooden panel. Make sure that it lies flat and does not slip. Now paint the motif with the other colors.
Also work with dabbing movements to achieve clean edges. The stencil technique is ideal for transferring precise shapes onto wood - even without any previous drawing experience. Allow the paint to dry well afterwards.
Design a cat: Sculptural effects with stencilling cream
Use stencilling cream for the cat. This is a special, thick paint that foams up when heated and visibly lifts. Carefully dab the creame through the stencil onto the desired area.
Then dry the paint with an embossing dryer. The heat will cause the stencilling cream to puff up and create an exciting, three-dimensional effect. This step gives your motif a special depth and makes the cat the highlight of the wooden panel.
Transfer the template and trace the lines
Now print out the free template and position it on the wooden panel together with graphite paper. Use light pressure to transfer the lines of the motif to the surface. Graphite paper works in a similar way to carbon paper and makes it easier to transfer templates accurately.
Then trace the transferred lines with the Posca marker. These marker are highly opaque acrylic marker, which are particularly suitable for wood and ensure clear, clean contours.
Completion: Your individual wooden artwork
Allow all paints to dry thoroughly - your creative wood project is then complete. The combination of painted surface, stencil motif, vivid textured paint and fine marker lines turns your wooden panel into a unique decorative piece with a handmade character.
