Magic lights: your DIY light frame with napkin technique
Step 1: Make a frame from craft blocks
Start by preparing four wooden blocks. Carefully glue them together to form a square frame. Make sure that all the corners are neatly lined up. Allow the frame to dry thoroughly so that it is firm and stable. This is the basis for your light frame and it should be perfect before you continue. Patience pays off here.
Step 2: Preparations for the napkin technique
While the frame is drying, take the pinwheel foil and measure it so that it is slightly smaller than the outer frame itself. This will ensure that it fits easily behind the frame later. Cut the foil accordingly.
Step 3: Prepare and transfer the napkin motif
Choose a napkin with a beautiful motif that you like. Cut out a quarter of the motif and carefully peel off the top, printed layer of the napkin. Make sure you do this carefully as the layer is very thin and delicate. Place the motif side of the napkin on the cut film with the motif side facing down.
Step 4: Apply the napkin varnish
Now comes the creative craft work with the napkin varnish. Start in the centre of the napkin and slowly work your way outwards to avoid air bubbles. Apply the napkin varnish to the back of the napkin so that it adheres to the entire surface of the film. Then allow the varnish to dry thoroughly.
Step 5: Stick the foil to the frame
Now that everything is thoroughly dry, you can stick the finished film with the napkin motif to the wooden frame
Step 6: Add the magical glow of lights
Take your fairy lights and stick them to the back of the film using hot glue. To do this, apply the glue selectively to the wire of the fairy lights so that the fairy lights remain securely in place. Be careful when handling the hot glue to avoid burns.
Step 7: Decorate the frame
Now it's time for the finishing touches! Decorate the frame according to your taste. You could write pennants with a special message on them, paint the wooden blocks or stick scattered pieces on them. Paint the wooden fir trees with your favourite craft paint. There are no limits to your creativity.
