Step-by-step instructions: Designing marbled beer coasters
1 Prepare your workspace
Before you start, cover your workstation with a VBS handicraft mat to avoid stains. Put on disposable gloves to keep your hands clean.
Take an old container large enough to hold a beer coaster. Fill it with cold tap water. Remember: paint residue cannot be removed later.
2 Marbling
Shake the colours for marbling vigorously and drop them into the water. You should not use too many different colours. This could make your design uneven. The colours for marbling will collect on the surface of the water to form a carpet of colour.
Take a bamboo skewer and use it to draw patterns in the floating drops of colour as you wish. Let your creativity run wild!
If you now dip a beer coaster into the water, the colour will adhere to the coaster as a marbling pattern. Then place it on the VBS handicraft mat to dry.
3 Clean the water surface
To ensure that the next marbling process also delivers good results, first remove the colour residue from the water surface with a piece of paper. Now you can fill in new colours and get started with the next pattern!
4 Decorating and labelling
Once all the beer coasters are dry, you can label or personalise them. This will make it easy for your guests to find their personalised jar later on.
