Step-by-step instructions for making coasters and bowls with a perforated edge
1 Preparation of the casting compound First, mix the casting powder with water to obtain a smooth, lump-free mixture. You will need about 7 tablespoons of casting powder for the "coaster with perforated rim" silicone casting mould, while 9 tablespoons are required for the "bowl with perforated rim". Gradually add water and stir the mixture well until you have a creamy, lump-free mixture. Add colour concentrates to the mixture as desired.
2 Pour and dry Carefully pour the prepared mixture into the silicone moulds. Make sure that the mixture is evenly distributed. Leave the moulds to dry for about 4 hours until the shells are firm and stable enough to be carefully removed from the silicone mould. Then allow them to air dry further.3 Decorate the sides of the bowls Cut pieces of paper wire about ten centimetres long and plug them through the holes on the edge of the side walls. Twist the wires together.
Now you have the option of wrapping the jute ribbon or cotton cord around the wires using various techniques.
Whether you design the ribbons by weaving or looping them around the wires, the possibilities are endless. This gives the bowls an individual and handmade look.
3 Finishing touches with beads and labels To finish, you can glue a wooden bead to the ends of the wires or simply bend the wire inwards. Use the handmade label as a personalised touch. You can attach it to the bowl with handicraft glue.
