Painting Stones: The Introduction
Before you start painting the stones, it's important to prepare the right materials. Choose stones that are as smooth as possible. You can find these in your garden, in nature, or at the hardware store. For painting, you'll need special colors, like the VBS Outdoor Color, which is perfect for outdoor use. Additionally, you'll need brushes and a white opaque marker for fine details. If you keep reading, you'll learn how to do everything step by step.
Step 1: Selecting and Sketching Stones
First, you should carefully choose your stones. Pay attention to the shape of the stones to find suitable motifs. Elongated stones are great for carrots or cucumbers, while wider stones are ideal for kohlrabi. Clean the stones thoroughly and sketch your desired motifs with a pencil. Feel free to use templates from the internet or let your imagination run wild!
Step 2: Coloring
Now it's time to bring in some color! Paint your motifs with the VBS Outdoor Color. Create depth and vibrancy in your pictures through shading. Don't hesitate to experiment – the colors are waterproof and thus ideal for outdoor use. Tip: If you’re not comfortable with painting, simply write the names of your plants with the opaque marker on the stones.
Step 3: Sealing
Although the outdoor paints are weather-resistant, we recommend sealing the stones for extra protection with Napkin Lacquer. Apply two thin layers and let them dry well. This not only increases the durability of the colors but also gives a nice, slightly glossy effect that is easy to clean.
