Sweet gift bags for little things

When it comes to giving gifts, it's not only the content that counts. Loving packaging makes presents real eye-catchers and shows creativity and ingenuity. The idea shown here is not only beautiful and imaginative, but also sustainable. You can make wonderfully cute gift bags from waxed fabric that can be used again and again. Before waxing, paint the fabric individually with edding textile pens. The textile markers and pens are perfect for light-coloured cotton fabrics. There is a choice of 20 shades in two line widths including neon colours for particularly bright motifs.

First cut the fabric to the desired size of the bag. In our example, it measures approx. 12.5 x 20.5 cm. We have chosen edding 4600 textile pens (available in practical sets of 5) to design the bags. We recommend washing the fabric beforehand so that the ink is absorbed as well as possible from . To shape the bag, iron a few vertical folds into the fabric.

In the next step, place the fabric on the base and draw the desired motif on the appropriate area of the bag using the black textile pen. You can also create a template in advance, which you can place under the fabric and then simply paint over with the textile pen.

Then iron the motif without steam to fix it.

Then iron the first piece of fleece onto the bottom end on one side and peel off the backing paper, then fold the edge over and fix in place. This will hold the bag together later. Fold the fabric lengthwise to form the bag and iron on a strip of fleece to the left and right. You can "hem" the open top edge with pinking shears so that the edge does not fray so easily.

Now prepare the workplace for waxing the fabrics, for example by spreading out a terry towel and placing baking paper on top. Then melt the wax in a pan in a bain-marie according to the instructions.

Use a slightly wider brush to apply the wax carefully and as evenly as possible. To prevent the bag from sticking completely, we recommend placing a suitable strip of baking paper in it beforehand.

Then place another sheet of baking paper on the bag and iron the wax from the center outwards at a medium temperature. This ensures that it is evenly distributed and penetrates deep into the fabric. At the same time, any excess wax will run out. After cooling down and removing the baking paper, the bags are ready and can be filled. The bags become softer with use. Important: beeswax can become rancid at some point, so the bags should be used for a maximum of 12 months.
