In this guide, you'll learn step by step how to create unicorns from Fimo with minimal material costs. Let's get started right away!
Unicorns made of Fimo – What you should know before you start
Before you begin, make sure that the Fimo in your desired colors is well-kneaded so that the individual components can be easily shaped later. If your unicorn is to serve as a pendant later, it is advisable to pre-drill a hole with a toothpick before it goes into the oven. Are the basics clear now? Great, then we can get started with the first steps.
Step 1: Create your 3D unicorn
Start with the body of your 3D unicorn. Take a larger piece of white Fimo and shape it into the unicorn's body. Press the Fimo over your little finger until a sort of bridge forms and cut this area with a knife to later shape the legs. Once the body is standing, form the head and attach it by pressing it in place.
Now let's move on to the details. Shape a triangle from a small ball for each ear and gently press it against the head. For the characteristic horn of the unicorn, twist two strands of golden Fimo together into a pointy horn and then shorten it to the desired length before attaching it to the head. The mane is made from additional strands that you place between the horn and the ears.
Finally, it’s time for the tail. You’ll need three equally long and thick strands, which you twist into a thick strand. Thin the ends slightly and attach the tail to the back of the unicorn.
Bake your unicorn at 110°C (230°F) for about 20 minutes. After cooling, give it cute eyes with a black marker.
Step 2: Design a charming 2D unicorn
Start by rolling out light and dark pink FIMO flat: First, cut a large circle from the dark pink and remove a smaller circle from its center, creating a ring of Fimo. Cut a light pink piece as a smaller circle and place this as filling inside the dark ring. Gently smooth both Fimo surfaces together with your fingers so that any gaps disappear.
Create the head and body of the unicorn and place both on the lower third of the modeled circular surface. For the mane and tail, shape small thin strands of dark pink FIMO, thinning the ends and then rolling them up on one side. Shape the ears and horn as described in this guide for the 3D unicorn, and attach them to the unicorn. You may then adjust the mane a little around the ear. You can easily indicate the eye with a toothpick.
Design the vine decoration: Shape vine elements from Fimo and adapt them around the unicorn by tucking them under the large vine. Gradually add details like flower petals and leaves. This way you cover transitions between the colors and give your unicorn liveliness. Use a little golden Fimo for the hooves and flower stamens.
This unicorn also bakes for about 20 minutes at 110°C (230°F) in the oven. If you want, you can draw the eye with a black marker after cooling.
