Working time: 3 Hours
Step 1: Casting Simple Tiles
To make tiles, you can use various casting materials. In this example, we will use Keraflott relief casting compound, but concrete is also an option. However, if using concrete, be sure to coat the molds with oil beforehand for easier release.
Step 2: Casting Tiles with Relief Inserts
For tiles with relief patterns, place the desired inserts in the mold before filling it, and secure them with double-sided tape. Ensure the design is placed in reverse, as it will flip once cast.
Step 3: Decorating the Tiles
To decorate the tiles, you can use paint and découpage techniques. Adhesives or protective coatings offer additional decoration possibilities. Combine different techniques for a unique look!
With Découpage Technique
Remove the unprinted layers of the napkin and cut it to size if necessary. Place the napkin or its parts on the tile and apply découpage glue from the center outward. Tear off excess gently. Reapply glue to the edges and let dry completely.
With Paint
First, prime the tile with a base color and add accents with another color. If not priming, paint individual elements immediately. Smooth surfaces may require several coats of paint.
Combined: Découpage Technique and Paint
Whether you paint or start with the découpage technique doesn't matter. What's important is that the first step is thoroughly dried. You can add various accents, from edge designs to motifs matching the napkin images.
